Comments: I was the mate/tankerman on the M/V Steven J Mason from 1977 to about 1981 when it was the M/V Universal Trader, owned by Chotin Transportation. The captains were "Poochie" Tindal and Elmer "Fudd" Blanchard. At that time it had a jack-up wheel house with an outside ladder to get to the bridge. Mostly ran from NOLA to Louisville and Cincinnati. There was a near constant poker game going the whole time I worked there; paid my rent with that.

Comments: LOVE this site. My husband and I spend a LOT of time at dam #14 LeClaire IA and we've begun to keep a log of the tows that we see pass through, how many barges, date, time of day and up or down river. Absolutely love the river and the tows!!! Thanks to all who make this site possible.
