thanks for the pics of the JE Alquist. It was named after my grandfather who was VP of American Commercial Barge Lines. But I was very sorry to see the condition it was in in the picture that was posted. Hoefully the new owners have restored her to her original beauty.

I've enjoyed coming to your site to find towboat names after I have taken pictures of them passing through Vicksburg. I post them on my blog site and always link back to your site. Great work Dick! :)

The "BRITNEY LEE" was originally the "BOB BENTER" owned by "The Ohio River Company". Bob Benter was my uncle who worked for the Ohio River Company in Cincinnati, Ohio.
I was on board only one time, when the "BOB BENTER" was delivering coal barges to Ohio River Company's location at Addyston, Ohio 45001 (Just down river from Cincinnati).
Th Ohio River Company had several tugs that were almost identical. You could always recognize them by their profile, which was unique to this fleet at this time ... The Ohio River Company no longer exists...

I decked on the m/v Charles Peters in 70's. We turned triple screw boats(8400hp) at Baton Rouge, then we headed south dropping barges off along the way to New Orleans. Four men to a watch, 6 hours on, 6 hours off. I was a lead deckhand. The captain used dominoes to represent the tow, I would draw a diagram of the tow, show where each drop and the resulting new tow configuration. Great Times!!!

I'm curious about the namesake of your vessel C. Michael Reeves. I'm a Kentucky native with relatives throughout the midwest.
