The Mississippi is the largest towboat ever built in the United States. She is 241 feet long, 58 feet wide and five stories high, and is powered by three 2,100-hp diesel engines. Her primary mission is to move barges in support of bank stabilization work on the lower Mississippi River. However, each spring and late summer, she hosts a series of Mississippi River Commission public meetings, with the late summer trip coming as far north as St. Paul, MN.
